- A note about Voice Therapy* - To change the pitch of your voice without doing damage,
you should seek out a professional known as a speech language
pathologist. Speech language pathology voice therapy services are
typically available in private clinics and hospitals. If you live near a
college, also check to see if they have a speech clinic associated with
their campus. This link (http://www.asha.org/public/speech/disorders/TGTS/) provides some more information on the reasons for and objectives of voice therapy for transgender people. This link (http://www.asha.org/proserv/) will help you find a speech language pathologist in your area (but there may be some not listed here too!). Be
sure to ask whether the speech language pathologist has done therapy
with transgender people before in order to open up communication on the
topic and to ensure that you would be comfortable receiving therapy in
that location. *Special thanks to Kara Smith MS '11, Ithaca College Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology graduate program, for providing this information.
